SERA KADIGİL

Born in Istanbul in 1984, Saliha Sera Kadıgil graduated from Vefa High School and earned her law degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 2007. She completed her master’s degree in Private Law at the same university in 2010, after conducting research at Queen Mary University of London, where she focused her thesis on “cinematographic works.” She continues her doctoral studies at Istanbul University, specializing in cultural and art law as well as intellectual property rights.

Throughout her legal career, she represented unions and organizations in the cultural and artistic fields, while also serving on the Executive Board of the Istanbul Bar Association’s Animal Rights Commission. She completed her legal internship during the politically charged “Ergenekon trials” period, an experience that shaped her commitment to defending freedom of expression, the right to organize, and animal rights.

Kadıgil began her political career within the Republican People’s Party (CHP), serving as a member of the Women’s Branch Central Executive Board and three consecutive terms on the Party Assembly. She was elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 2018 as an MP from Istanbul’s 1st electoral district. On June 25, 2021, she resigned from the CHP and joined the Workers’ Party of Turkey (TİP), where she currently serves as the Party’s Spokesperson. She was re-elected as an MP for Istanbul in the 2023 general elections, continuing her tenure in the 28th Parliament.

In parliament, Kadıgil focuses on issues such as gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, labor and social justice, cultural and artistic freedoms, the rule of law, and freedom of expression. Known for her outspoken and critical interventions in parliamentary sessions, she gained public attention for her protest during the 2021 budget debates. She continues to communicate TİP’s political agenda to the public through press conferences, parliamentary work, and active engagement on social media.
